Karla Clinch, daughter to Charles and JoAnn Brewster, sister to two older brothers.

I am a professional dog-trainer.  Dog Training is my living, and how I pay my bills.  I work at this job full time, and do not rely on other income to finance myself.

I have been training dogs since childhood, getting my first dog as an infant, and having it until we were both about 5 yrs of age.  At the age of 6, I was given two Shelties, one of which was killed by a car, and the other of which, had to be euthanized due to something she ate.

Later in life, my brother, Ed, acquired beagles to hunt with, which I promptly ruined by training them!  Poor Ed, he never did understand why his dogs would not leave his side to go hunt.  I had taught them to heel…

I have also had a passion for horses all of my life.  Having gotten my first one as a child of probably 3-4.  I was to have several over the next twenty years or so. I trained cheap racehorses for several years, and thoroughly enjoyed it!

I have also trained a limited number of exotics, and some rodents, which are cool to train.  Rats are extremely intelligent!  Of course, my Mom refused to come to the house when I had them.

I went to dog training school in 1989, graduated as a Master Trainer from National K-9 School of Dog Trainers, in Columbus, Ohio.

I worked in the Indianapolis area, before moving to Minnesota.  I lived and trained up there for two winters, and then decided I didn’t like cold weather.

I moved to Southern Indiana where I returned to college to get a BA in Psychology.  I worked for a man training his Arabs during that time, and had a 20 run kennel on my farm.

I found out during this time that I had Multiple Sclerosis.  I was pretty devastated at first, then got over the shock of having a “disability” and got on with my life.

I moved to South Florida in 1998, and I have to say, I love the area.  I should have made this move 20 yrs ago!

I took a full time job at a vet clinic, as office manager, and head technician, where I worked for 4 yrs.  I trained dogs in the evenings, and went home to 5-6 dogs in my one bedroom apartment every night.  After 4 yrs, I was “dogged” out, so I quite my job and took a vacation, which enabled me to focus on my current passion, diving.  I dove all summer, every day, morning and afternoon, 7 days a week.  Lost about 50 lbs, and got tanned!  Boy, was it fun!

Then reality set in.  I had to pay the rent.  So, back to work I went.  Only for another dog training company.  I worked for that company for a year, and then decided it was time for a change.  So, I am back into business for myself.

I am certified by Purdue University’s School of Vet Medicine as a behavioral technician, I have attended and do believe in attending continuing education on a regular basis.

I have trained dogs for the Department of Defense, and was a consultant for their military work dog program, AIM HI, which trains assistance dogs for disabled veterans.

I have trained about 4000 dogs and their owners in the past 20 yrs, and thoroughly love what I do.
