Hearing Ear Dogs

A Hearing Dog is specially trained to assist a person who is deaf or hard of hearing. The dog is trained to respond to sounds such as a smoke alarm, baby crying, doorbell, alarm clock etc. and alert his or her deaf partner that these sounds have occurred.

Those who are eligible to receive a S.A.F.E. Hearing Dog must spend one week learning how to work as a team with their new dog.

If the applicant is under 13 years of age or cannot assume total responsibility for a Hearing Dog, a facilitator must accompany the applicant and become part of the Hearing Dog team.
